February 18: Clean Diesel Program Grant Deadline
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is now implementing the 2022 Michigan Clean Diesel Program. This program seeks to subsidize the replacement of diesel vehicles, engines, and/or equipment with either (1) zero tailpipe emission vehicles, engines, or equipment or (2) hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles, engines, or equipment.
The program funds may be used to decommission and replace diesel school buses. To be eligible, a bus must be operational, have been owned by the school during the two years before the upgrade, and have at least three years useful life remaining. The bus must also have traveled 7,000 miles per year during the two years before the upgrade. Schools may satisfy the mileage threshold either by using mileage from calendar year 2019 or by decommissioning two buses and replacing them with a single new bus.
Approximately $325,000 will be made available statewide to reimburse the authorized expenses of successful applicants. All projects must be completed by August 31, 2023.
Applications for the Clean Diesel Program are due by Friday, February 18, 2022, at 5 p.m. Applications must be emailed to queeni1@michigan.gov with the subject line “Clean Diesel 2022.” For more information visit:
