Two New Attorneys Join Thrun Law Firm

We are pleased to announce that Katherine Wolf Broaddus and Timothy Gardner, Jr. have joined Thrun Law Firm.

Katherine Broaddus joins us after having practiced for seven years at a Farmington Hills law firm that represents school districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies. Ms. Broaddus will concentrate her practice in the areas of general school law, special education law, and labor and employment law.

Ms. Broaddus received her undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Social Work from Western Michigan University (BSW, BS 2000), and her Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law (JD 2004). While in law school, Ms. Broaddus was a two-year member of the Moot Court Honors Society and a quarter finalist at the Luther M. Swygert Moot Court Competition and the William E. McGee Civil Rights Moot Court Competition at the University of Minnesota Law School. Before entering law school, Ms. Broaddus was employed as a social worker to children with developmental disabilities.

Ms. Broaddus is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. She also is a member of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys and the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys. In 2010, Ms. Broaddus was elected to the Board of Directors of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys. Ms. Broaddus has published numerous articles on education law topics. In 2013, she was selected as a “Rising Star” in the education law practice area by Michigan Super Lawyers magazine. Ms. Broaddus will be working from our East Lansing and West Michigan offices.

Timothy Gardner has several years experience in representing and advising public employers, including schools and municipal governments. Mr. Gardner’s practice will focus on general school law, labor and employment law, and municipal law.

Mr. Gardner received his undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University (BA, Political Science) and his Juris Doctorate from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law (JD, 2000). While at Eastern Michigan University, Mr. Gardner was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Prior to joining Thrun Law Firm, Mr. Gardner served as General Counsel/Human Resources Director for Pontiac Public Schools and Assistant General Counsel for Detroit Public Schools. He also served as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the City of Inkster, legal advisor for the President of the Detroit City Council and the City of Detroit, Assistant Attorney General for the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, and Staff Attorney for the 36th District Court.

Mr. Gardner is active in the State Bar of Michigan, Young Lawyers Section; the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division; and the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association. Mr. Gardner will be working from our East Lansing and Novi offices.
