Kirk C. Herald has practiced in the area of business contracts for more than 20 years, representing private sector real estate developers before joining Thrun Law Firm in 2002. Kirk received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 1999, where he earned numerous academic awards and scholarships, including Jurisprudence Awards in Taxation and Decedent’s Estates, and the Stephen T. Roumell Award. Mr. Herald graduated with a B.A., cum laude, from Hope College in 1996, majoring in both business administration and political science.

Kirk provides general counsel and advice to hundreds of public schools and municipal corporations. He drafts and negotiates complex agreements involving real property interests, intellectual property, technology systems, third-party service providers, general business relations, and all aspects of construction. Kirk also helps public entities resolve related conflicts and disputes through mediation, arbitration, and litigation when necessary.

He is admitted to practice in Michigan and various federal courts and appeals courts. Kirk is a member in good standing of the National Counsel of School Attorneys, the Michigan Counsel of School Attorneys, the American Bar Association, and the Ingham County Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer on school, construction, real estate, and transactional law matters for organizations including the Michigan School Business Officials, the Michigan Association of School Administrators, and the Michigan Association of School Boards.

Kirk lives in the Lansing area with his wife and three children. He enjoys reading and running and has competed in numerous marathons and half-marathons. He cheers for the big four Detroit sports teams and is an avid fan of Michigan State University athletics.
