On May 6, 2020, the U.S. Department of Education issued new Title IX regulations, which took effect August 14, 2020. These regulations significantly amend schools’ obligations when addressing sex-based harassment complaints. To assist schools with meeting their obligations under the new regulations, Thrun Law Firm has developed a model Title IX policy package and is offering virtual comprehensive Title IX training.
The package consists of a model Board Policy for K-12 schools, a formal complaint form, an investigation checklist, template notice letters, template mandatory and permissive dismissal letters, a template determination of responsibility, and an optional recordkeeping protocol. The package also includes an all-staff training video module, which may be purchased separately.
After holding two virtual comprehensive Title IX trainings in August, due to popular demand, Thrun will offer two additional comprehensive virtual trainings on September 2, 2020 and October 2, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Title IX Sexual Harassment comprehensive training is for all pre-K-12 employees who will serve as Title IX Coordinators, Investigators, Decision-Makers, or Appeals Officers in the new Title IX process. The training will cover, among other topics, the new complaint, dismissal, investigation, decision, and appeal procedures, and the new definition of sexual harassment.
