Thrun Law Firm Mourns the Passing of J. Richard ("Dick") Robinson

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Dick Robinson. With an extensive practice in public sector and municipal law, Dick was well-known throughout the Lansing and tri-county area. Dick was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 5, 1942 and passed away October 24, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Frances (Daniel) Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Bonnie (Robert) Owens; son, Bill Robinson; brother, Robert (Suzanne) Robinson; and brother-in-law, Robert (Gay-Lynn) Blanding. Also surviving to cherish their grandfather's memory are his grandchildren, Gibson, Vivian, and Mary Frances Robinson and Allyson Sears. Several nieces and nephews also will remember their beloved uncle.

Dick graduated from Michigan State University (B.A., 1965) and Wayne State University Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1968). At Wayne Law, Dick earned academic honors, was Chancellor of the Moot Court Board, and was a member of the National Moot Court Team. Dick also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, 1963-1969. Dick was a true Spartan and a loyal supporter of Michigan State University. His "love for Alma Mater" was particularly evident during football and basketball season as he unfailingly displayed his "faith so true" to sing "praises to MSU."

Dick's law practice focused on zoning/land use, real estate transactions, property taxation, probate, and civil litigation. During his 44 years of practicing law, many of Dick's clients also became close friends. Dick's keen legal mind and professional demeanor served his clients well, and also modeled a standard for all members of the Bar. Those attributes endure as his legacy. Dick was a mentor to many attorneys who gratefully appreciate the time Dick spent with them.

Dick was a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, and the Ingham County Bar Association, and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Dick appeared in Michigan courts at all levels, and the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
