Kari Shay joined Thrun Law Firm in 2004 after 8 years of law practice, including 2 years of practice with Arthur Andersen as a tax specialist and 6 years of experience representing Michigan public school districts and other municipalities. Before that, Kari graduated from Michigan State University, (B.A., cum laude, 1993) and Wayne State University (J.D., with honors, 1996) where she was a member of the Moot Court team and received honors from the National Honor Key Society and Justice Frank Murphy Honor Society.
Kari concentrates her practice on public finance, general education law and transactional matters. In addition to acting as bond or note counsel to school districts and municipalities, she has extensive experience in the negotiation of construction contracts, technology agreements and other business contracts. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, Michigan Council of School Attorneys, National School Board Association Council of School Attorneys, Council of Development Finance Agencies, and National Association of Bond Lawyers.
Kari is a frequent lecturer on finance, transaction, and general school law issues. She has presented for numerous organizations including the Michigan School Business Officials, Michigan Association of School Boards, and Michigan Association of School Administrators. She lives in Lyon Township and divides her time between the Novi and East Lansing offices.
