Margaret (Meg) Hackett graduated from the University of Notre Dame (B.A., magna cum laude, 1979) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 1981), and then clerked for the Honorable Cornelia G. Kennedy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Ms. Hackett is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan and the District of Columbia, and practiced law for 25 years before joining the Thrun Law Firm in 2007, including eight years as general counsel for Gateway Middle/High School and four years as assistant general counsel for Ferris State University.
Ms. Hackett is a member of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys; the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys; the National Association of College and University Attorneys; the American Bar Association; the Federal Bar Association; the Grand Rapids Bar Association; and the Women Lawyer’s Association of Michigan, having served as a past president of the WLAM Western Region. Ms Hackett is a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference and holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV® rating.
Ms. Hackett’s practice focuses on general school law, public school academies, college and university law, special education law, and appellate practice.
